LongShot 2007 Weizenbock by Rodney kibzey (Sam Adams Brew Contest Winner)
I Just cracked open the second beer of my LongShot 6 pack, Weizenbock. If you don’t know a Bock is an amber beer (its also my perfered beer at the bar) and Weizen is the german version of Belgian white beer. So with this combo your looking at something very different.
This beer is nice and light in taste (however the beer it’s self is very dark) and has a very complex flavor. It comes on with a bit of a bubblegum flavor, i know that sounds gross but thats the only way i can describe it, its not gross at all though, its quite good. You can taste cloves in it and it finishes like a Belgian white beer. I can’t even understand how he pulled off this flavor in such a dark beer.
Its a dark beer, that comes on like an amber beer(Taste), is as light as a light beer(goes down easy), and tastes like a belgian beer at the end(at least up there with white rascal). This is a very unique flavor and almost a perfect combo. I wish this wasn’t just a one time only seasonal because this would be something i would buy on a very regular basis.
Seriously, Get it wile you freaking can.

LongShot 2007 Grape Pale Ale by Lili Hess (Sam Adams Brew Contest Winner)
i’m sure you’ve seen the ads on TV for the Sam Adams brew contest every year. every year i wanna make a brew worth entering but i never have the equipment in time. Usually i always miss the longshot beer, i really wanted to try it last year but couldn’t find it anywhere. anyways, about the beer…
I acctully baught this 6 pack just to try it, i’ve never heard of a flavored pale ale before, and haven’t really heard of any beer being advertised as grape (although if you’ve read my review of Lumpy Gravy, Although they don’t acctully advertise there beer as grape and it just kinda tastes like it. I figured the flavor with the hoppyness would make for a really weird combo but grape goes quite well with the pale ale hops, its very lightly hopped and has a very light grape taste, nether are over powering and its a VERY good combo. Its Light and has an amazing grape flavor. Even my girlfriend liked it and she doesn’t like beer.
Get this one wile you can!

Mississippi mud by mississippi brewing co.
This brew is a favorite of mine for a long time just because you have to love the bum jug bottle. Whats inside is what matters and its very good for a beer that comes in a bum jug. This beer is a black and tan which means its a dark beer mixed with a light beer, according to the back its porter and pilsner. It has the flavor of both the first taste is a slightly hoppy pale pilsner taste but the aftertaste and the consistency is that of a porter, its nice and sweet but slightly bitter. This is a good combo weirdly enough. I’d perfer a straight porter but this is alot easier to drink, so if you want great taste with great drinkabity this is what your looking for. I like this little bum jug, you should probably go get one too.

Haystack Wheat By Left Hand Brewing co
Well i hate to say it but I’m going to have to move out of my apt in a few days which means i’ll be living with my mom again for a wile. What does that translate to? Significantly less reviews. Well with that being said i’ve also been pretty busy with school in the last few weeks so i’ve been neglecting my reviews which i apologize for.
Haystack Wheat By Left Hand Brewing looked like a tasty choice for tonight, i’ve been on a really big left hand kick lately buying lot of there stuff. Haystack wheat is alot better than i was expecting, i usually really like how left hand does there brews so i dono why i didn’t expect this one to be great. This is a Belgian white inspired wheat beer, which is how i like my wheat beers. I find that American wheat beers are usually far too orangy and you can’t really fully enjoy the flavor its just bascily an orange beer (Shocktop, lienenkoogels, ect.) which isn’t bad but if you allow a wheat beer to actually flourish with its own flavor instead of adding fruit it can be a wonderful combo. This beer reminds me alot of white rascal which i really like, that makes 3 Authentic tasting Belgian beers in my area. I highly recommend haystack wheat, If you can buy it, do it.

Black Jack Porter by Left Hand Brewing co.
Left hand’s take on the porter is really good, but what can you expect from the folks that brought us the milk stout. Black Jack is a really good porter thats fairly mellow with very mild chocolaty flavor. Its pretty good, i really love it just like all other porters, the take left hand has on it is really quite good. i like it better than the cut throat one i had the other day.

Purple Haze by Abita Beer.
I’ve never tired anything frew the Abita brewery but there 6 pack boxes look neat so i decided to give it a try. Purple haze is a raspberry wheat beer, and you can taste that its both but the wheat part of it almost tastes like its a lager, deffnately American, thats for sure. Its tart and quite possably the lightest beer i have ever had in my entire life. When i first tastes it i really didn’t like it but its kind of growing on me as i finish the bottle. This beer is so light it has hardly any flavor other than the slight hint of the raspberries and the tart because of that.

Oktoberfest Ur-marzen by Spaten
I usually like German beers. I’ve had about 6 or 7 in the past but…
This was a disappointment. I was expecting a really nice rich german beer going by its amber color but i’m left with the extremely mediocre European taste of Hiniekin. The taste is weird and unsettling, its far too sweet like a Mexican beer.
I’m not even gonna write anymore i hate it so much, avoid this beer.
Oktoberfest Ur-marzen by Spaten (2.2/10)
I’d rather have a PBR.
EDIT: Its about 3 hours after i drank this and the after taste won’t go away.

Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewing co.
Black Butte is another nice porter, thats very mellow. It has a slightly unique taste but to tell you the truth this taste a lot like any other porter. One thing i really notice about it is it has a kind of strong alcohol taste when you first put it in your mouth but it mellows out and doesn’t really taste too bad. i wouldn’t rank this among the best porters but it tastes good enough to buy 6 pack of.

Cutthroat Porter by Odell Brewing co.
No night is complete without a nice dark beer.
Tonight i finally found a porter that i haven’t tried, Odell’s Cutthroat. In the past i’ve thought of Odell as a pretty good brewery and this one is very good. Its very dark but not that thick, this is a very light porter, which caught me off guard, usually a beer this dark should be… well… thick. The lack of filling thickness this beer isn’t to say theres a lack in flavor, it tastes like a genuine porter with a slightly different twist. It has a slightly different and lighter aftertaste than most porters. This porter is pretty good, great taste with a light body.. i think i just found the perfect woman lol. Seriously though, this porter is the lightest porter I’ve had besides the Shawarz at Gordon and Beiersh.

Dead Guy Ale by Rogue
Rogue is a tricky mistress of brewery’s usually in the past i haven’t liked what i’ve tried but its been over a year so i’m gonna give it a shot.
This ale is pretty hoppy but not too hoppy. It has a mellow ale taste with some very underlining hoppy taste to it. To tell you the truth this is the kind of beer I’d like to drink wile I’m out at the bars. I actually really like the hoppy flavor in this because its so mellow. Or maybe its because it blends with the well well selected malts in this brew. I would recommend this ale if your in the mood for a bit of hoppyness. I would call this ale a great alternative to getting a pale ale, if your like me and you don’t like your hops too strong but you want a little hoppy taste, this would be perfect for you.
