Pale Golden Ale by Alaskan Brewing co.

May 31, 2008 at 7:18 am (Uncategorized)

This pale ale is extremely mild with the hops. There there and i can taste the most mild amount of bitterness but unless someone told me this was a pale ale i would almost consider this beer to just be a normal ale with a hoppier profile. This brew is refreshing and slightly dry (from the bitterness). It feels like the hops in this beer where really used to make it dry rather than fill it with hop flavor, which is an interesting approach. This pale ale is alright but its nothing i would go out of my way to get, the hops are just too mild.

Au Naturale Organic Blonde Ale by Grand Teton Brewing Co.

This ale is pretty decent, the flavor is nothing like what i was expecting. It reminds me a lot of fat tire, it has the bicuty taste to it but its much more mild than fat tire. The biscuty taste is probably the dominant flavor, the other flavor in this beer is that of a general Blonde. This ale isn’t very complex but its very light and drinkable.

IPA by O’dell Brewing Co

This is a very flavor packed ipa thats not as bitter as i was expecting. The hop flavor is grapefruity and a bit floral with some bitterness. The Grapefruit taste is a bit odd but i feel it throws off the hop flavor, it might catch alot of people off guard and you might not like it. The aftertaste is dry and and it brings out the bitterness because of it. This is an okay IPA, its different but its not for me.

New Grist by Lakefront Brewery

May 27, 2008 at 4:28 am (Uncategorized)

First i’d like to apologize for the lack of pictures in the last few posts, i have them i just need to get them off the camera and the laptop i use to make most of my post’s hard drive is full, but i’ll have them all up sometime this week.

This is a very light and crisp beer however for how light it is its still got a decent amount of flavor. The primary flavor to this beer is dry, almost like a cider, i think its the Sorghum. I’ve never tasted it in anything before so i can’t be certain though, however it says on the bottle its in there so I’ll take its word for it. The flavor is basically a dry citrus. Theres also rice used in this beer, you can tell in the aftertaste that its there. Its not an awful ricey aftertaste though ether, like alot of asian beers, Its more there to enhance the already smoothness and mellowness in this beer. The rice has a pretty strong influence on the aftertaste. This i feel is what a summer beer should be, or even a very light beer for that matter, it proves you can have complexity even with a light beer.

8th Street Ale by Four Peaks Brewing Co.

May 26, 2008 at 5:52 am (Uncategorized)

This is the other main beer from the brewery in Tempe, its a English style pale ale. Its very mild for a pale ale, the hops are there, but there very mild. The beer finishes a bit citrusy with a citrusy taste that lingers. The hops are mild but really good. This beer almost has a wheat like flavor to it, its really different for the genre, pale ale. This is a super duper balanced pale ale that feels like an orange wheat beer.

Lucky 13 by Lagunitas

May 25, 2008 at 1:21 am (Uncategorized)

This is a pint i found out in tempe also that i don’t have where i live. Lucky 13

L13 is according to the bottle a red ale but it’s completely different from any other red ale I’ve had. This beer is hella hoppy, its dry hoped too but it has a very mild malt wash but the dry hops are really in your face the whole time. This beer comes on hoppy then kind of washes away for a few seconds before you get a medium wash of bitterness for the aftertaste. Considering the amount of hops in this beer its not as bitter as you’d except. It also has a bit of fruit flavor in it right before the bitterness takes hold. This red ale is extremely unique because reds usually don’t have this level of hops, and the hops arn’t too bitter, which is nice too. Calling this beer a red feels off because the flavor screams dry hopped IPA, but i haven’t heard about many of those.

IPA Maximus Ale by Lagunitas

May 24, 2008 at 5:30 am (Uncategorized)

When i first read the label of this beer i was expecting a very bitter extremely hoppy beer, Lagunitas in the past has made some of the hoppiest beers I’ve tried. This beer wasn’t as bitter as i was expecting however it has rich amount of hops that i would expect from Lagunitas. The hops appear to be a mixture of dry and fruity hops. They finish slightly bitter with a bit of a pine like taste. This IPA is fairly complex compared to most IPAs and has a very dry taste to it. As you drink it the beer almost starts to make the blend seem nutty. This is a pretty decent IPA, a generous amount of hops and little bitterness because of it.

Kilt Lifter Scottish Ale by Four Peaks Brewing Company

May 23, 2008 at 3:58 am (Uncategorized)

I finally found a brewery from Tempe, AZ which is where i’m planning to move here in a few months. This is one of the beers from that brewery; Four Peaks.

This beer is pretty light drinkin for a Scottish ale, however it still has the malts but it also lacks the scotchy kick that most scotch ales have. This beer is very balanced with some very dommiant malt flavors. The keyword to this beer i think is balanced, this is a very balanced ale with neather side being too strong, the malts are slightly more intense but still very balanced. Near the end of the taste on your palate you get a very quick taste and a very mild taste of the scotch flavor i was talking about. The beer also has a really nice ale flavor throughout. Wile this isn’t the best scotch ale i’ve had its a pretty decent one, its just a little too mild for the style for me.

Lucky Beer by Lucky Drink Co.

I found this little diddy on my trip in AZ, the next few reviews i’ll be doing on the road wile i’m staying in tempe for the next few days

Lucky is a lager with light lager flavor. Its mild and easy drinking. The aftertaste is washed away quite quickly. The lager flavor is really light and feels like it might come on strong but it never really does.
This is a pretty average lager, nothing really feels like it stands out. Its a light lager, thats about it.

Pale Ale by Samuel Adams

May 21, 2008 at 3:32 am (Uncategorized)

This pale ale is unlike anything i’ve had before, its not bitter at all and it almost has a caramely aftertaste. The hops are the first thing that come on and there vastly different from anything I’ve had before there not really dry, the flavor of is quite great. The malts in this pale ale are so different, they almost have an amber type of flavor, caramely but light. This is a fantastic pale ale, its so different its almost its own thing. This is the most balanced pale ale i’ve ever ran into and it was nice to meet it.
