Hefeweizen by Sam Adams

June 20, 2008 at 12:20 am (Uncategorized)

This hefeweizen is pretty light and mild, its got some slight hop flavor and not a whole lot of the normal wheat flavor you get with most wheat beers. Theres a bit of malt in the aftertaste to balance everything out but its really not that strong. This beer tastes alot more like just a normal ale than a Hefe. Letting the beer sit in your mouth you get some much bolder hop flavor. This Hefe is pretty unusual, its not like most other wheat beers and is much more like a standard ale than anything, i mean, don’t get me wrong i do like the taste, its just not really wheat tasting.

Boston Lager by Sam Adams

June 18, 2008 at 11:44 pm (Uncategorized)

Back after a short hiatus to the web page! Funds haven’t allowed me to review anything lately.

Boston lager is a fairly common beer, you’ll see it almost anywhere in America which is nice because this is a really good beer. This lager is wonderful because its not pure skunk like most of its European counterparts. It features this really wonderful balanced malt taste that goes with hard to find skunk flavor. The aftertaste is dominated by the malt and it leaves a nice mild aftertaste. The beer enters your mouth with a bit of hop flavor but its extremely mild, this is nothing like a pale ale. The skunk you’d expect from a lager really doesn’t exist that much in this beer, there’s a lot of other flavors going on that blend well with it though. This lager is really fantastic.

Jeff’s Pale Ale by Crabtree Brewing Co.

June 9, 2008 at 1:17 am (Uncategorized)

Jeff’s pale ale is a perfectly balanced pale ale that has loads of flavor. The malts in this beer are wonderful they stand out to me and really balance the hops which are almost equally as good. The smell is unique too, its really nice. The hops are smooth and slightly fruity and slightly dry. This beer isn’t bitter what so ever, its amazing. This is a bad ass pale ale, one of the best, and deffnately different i mean, most good pale ales are pretty similar, but this one is fantastic and unique. This is one great pale ale.  Crabtree always puts out such unique beers this brewery is  making its way to my heart as one of Colorado’s best kept secrets.

Summer Ale by Alaskan Brewing Co.

June 7, 2008 at 12:02 am (Uncategorized)

This brew is wicked light, its refreshing though. Truthfully theres not a whole lot of flavor, but for what flavor you can taste its an ale. It feels like this beer was filtered a bit too much which is why it has such small flavor. Theres a slight amount of dry hoppy taste in the mix but its hard to find. Wile this beer has very little flavor it still is quite refreshing.

Liquor Mart 40th Anniversary Ale by Avery Brewing Co.

June 6, 2008 at 12:08 am (Uncategorized)

This is the 40th Anniversary beer for my favorite liquor store its brewed by a local brewery here, Avery. This beer is a Belgian Pale ale, i’ve never had one before that i can remember so this might be interesting.. This is a mellow pale ale with very mild spice. Its got a pretty wide range of flavors, Its dry hoppy, its got some citrus and it sits very light. The spice is a lot more mild than i would expect for a Belgian style beer, its still there, and if you let the beer rest in your mouth it rises in flavor. The bitterness is mild but its there though, however its mostly drown out by the other flavors. Another thing i notice abit about this beer is you can taste the alcohol in it. This is a pretty good pale ale and its even better because your supporting Liquor Mart.

Pale Moon by Blue Moon

This pale ale is extremely mild, theres a hint of orange at the end. It’s very light, but isn’t lacking in flavor. The orange really comes though, the hops really don’t. For a pale ale you can hardly taste the hops, making this good for people who don’t want to be overwhelmed by hops. According to the bottle its brewed with Hibiscus, which i think mellows out the hops alot, the hops taste like there floral and that works well with the hibiscus. This is certainly a smooth beer, and i really like the taste as you let it just sit in your mouth, however when you swallow it you get a kind of off taste. This pale ale is very complex for a pale ale, which i can’t decide if i like or not. Wile it doesn’t have the best hops it makes up for it with complexity so i’m really on the fence weather or not i like it, regardless I’d recommend trying it.

Fire Hydrant Hefeweisen by Fire station 5 Brewing Co.

June 4, 2008 at 4:19 am (Uncategorized)

This will be the last beer from my trip to AZ that i’ll be reviewing.

This wheat beer for my money i think is mediocre. You can certainly taste the alcohol, which i find unbelievable for a wheat beer. Its super light, and has a bit of spice. but the spice is nothing like any other hefeweisen, its so mild you wouldn’t know it was there if you weren’t looking. The taste is also dry, which is odd for a wheat beer. I feel like this beer could taste really good after you’ve had a few. Everything just feels off about this wheat beer, i just don’t like it.

Oatmeal Stout by Nimbus Brewing Co

June 3, 2008 at 10:13 pm (Uncategorized)

This is a local AZ beer from tuson

This is a really nice stout, its not very stouty tasting but it has some great flavor. its really dark and malty and the oatmeal flavor shines through. This is alot more mild than alot of stouts i’ve tried. Theres a slight bit of bitterness in the flavor but its not that strong because of all the malts. The beer comes on with a malt taste and really caries it though, with a bit of harder hitting hops in the middle that cause some bitterness but not excessively. The malty wash is the most dominant flavor throughout.

Smithwicks by Guinness

June 2, 2008 at 3:36 am (Uncategorized)

This Irish ale will catch you off guard the first time you taste it. Its a light beer thats most dominant flavor is well the taste that you get in most Irish Beers. Its hard to describe the taste, its like a mixture of stout and whiskey, i think thats the closest i can get to discribeing it accurately. Theres a pretty decent amount of thickness. The other taste that i get, that i dislike, is that higher quality grainy taste like Budwiser. Its hardly there but it comes out sometimes here and there, its kind of odd, but the Irish flavor basically completely covers it for the most part. This is a pretty damn good authentic Irish beer, its actually a pretty good alternative to Guinness if your looking for a more mainstream Irish beer.

Dales Pale Ale By Oskar Blues Brewery

June 1, 2008 at 12:56 am (Uncategorized)

Dales pale ale was one of the first pale ales i ever had, when i first tried it about 6 years ago i didn’t like it and i haven’t had it since. So now that my tastes are a bit more refined i’m gonna give it another shot

Dales pale ale is a ale that aims to please, its got a really good helping of hops, and a thickness that does it wonders. The hops are really quite fantastic, they have a real Colorado hop taste to them. The other great thing about this beer is the hops are balanced out, so theres no horrible dry bitterness to this one, just a small amount of dryness blended out by some mild malts. The thickness about this beer is something i love too, Oscar Blues also makes another beer called ‘old chub’ that also has a fantastic amount of thickness to the brew. The thickness works great with this pale ale, you get the hop flavor but you get more of an amber thickness. I can’t beleave how wrong i was about this beer, this is easily one of our state’s best pale ales. Another great thing about this beer is at nearly 7% alc rating, your getting bang for your buck as well.
